Burn
First degree burn
First degree burns only affect the outer layer of the skin, the epidermis. The burn area is red, slightly swollen, and without blisters. Characteristic is the typical unpleasant burn pain. First degree burns usually heal with out problems and long-term damage is rare.
Second degree burn
A second degree burn causes redness and swelling and the area is extremely painful. Characteristic is the formation of fluid filled blisters. Second degree burns involve the epidermis and part of the dermis layer of the skin.
Third degree burn
The damage extends deeper into the skin tissues. Most common symptoms are dry and leathery, necrotic skin. The burned skin may look white or charred. Often there is lack of pain because also nerve endings have been destroyed. Third degree burns always need immediate medical attention.
Cool
The wound should be rinsed immediately under cool running water for approx. 5 -10 minutes or until pain subsides. Do not apply ice. Cooling the burn is known to relief the pain and to reduces welling by conducting heat away from the skin and help to prevent blister formation.
Dry
Dry the wound carefully and avoid further damage to the vulnerable skin.
Treat
Cover the burn with a dressing or a plaster. The SOS Burn plaster is very skin friendly, breathable and easy to remove. The hydrogel technology continuously moisturizes the wound and offers optimal healing conditions.
For first and second degree burns you should seek medical advice if the burned area is large or if after initial pain relief the burned area again shows signs of infection such as redness, heat, swelling, pain, itching or burning.
For third-degree burns you should seek medical attention in all cases.
Further medical attention is necessary if a child is burned, if the burn is on sensitive parts of the body e.g. on the face or if you have any questions or concerns.
The SOS Burn plaster with its soft hydrogel wound pad cools the wound immediately and provides instant pain relief. The wound is securely protected against external influences like pokes, pressure, dirt and infection. In case of blistering and broken skin the hydrogel offers moist wound healing conditions and prevents scab formation. Clinical investigations have shown that wounds heal faster in a moist environment and with a reduced likelihood of scarring.
The SOS Burn plaster consists of two zones. The flat border is coated with a very skin friendly adhesive designed to adhere well to intact skin. The cushioning pad in the centre has minimal adhesion, but just enough to keep close contact to the burn. In case of exudating burns the hydrogel technology ensures that the wound pad does not stick to the sensitive burned area. Changing the plaster does not cause pain and the newly formed skin will not be damaged.
The SOS Burn plaster is especially suitable for long-term usage. You can leave it in place up to several days. Provided that no signs of infection occur, the healing process should not be interrupted by changing the plaster too often.
No, the SOS Burn plaster is meant for first and minor second degree burns. Larger, deeper burns need medical attention.
Blisters should not be broken since they act as coverage for the injured skin layer underneath and protect against infection. Additionally, the wound fluid inside the blister promotes the healing process of the wound. The SOS Burn plaster protects the blister or even replaces the protective function if the blister breaks.
