Frequently Asked Questions
1. Can I treat all burns with the SOS Burn plaster?
No, the SOS Burn plaster is meant for first and minor second degree burns only. Larger and deeper burns always require medical attention. See also the InstantHelp on “
Burns”.
2. How does the SOS Burn plaster work?
The SOS Burn plaster with its soft hydrogel wound pad cools the wound immediately and provides instant pain relief. The wound is securely protected against external influences like pokes, pressure, dirt and infection. In case of blistering and broken skin the hydrogel offers moist wound healing conditions and prevents scab formation. Clinical investigations have shown that wounds heal faster in a moist environment and with a reduced likelihood of scarring.
3. How long may I leave Elastoplast SOS Burn Plaster on?
The plaster is especially suitable for long-term usage. You can safely leave it in place up to several days. But you should not interrupt the healing process by changing the plaster too often (provided that you do not have an infection in your wound).
4. Does the plaster stick to the wound?
The plaster consists of two zones. The flat border is coated with a very skin friendly adhesive designed to adhere well to intact skin. The cushioning pad in the centre has minimal adhesion, but just enough to keep close contact to the burn. In case of exudating burns, the hydro gel technology ensures that the wound pad does not stick to the sensitive burn. Changing the plaster does not cause pain and the newly formed tissue will not be damaged.
5. What are the other benefits of this plaster?
The Elastoplast® SOS Burn Plaster is very skin friendly and breathable. It is also invisible, flexible and easy to remove.
6. How should I act, if a blister resulting from burns occurs?
Blisters should not be broken since they act as coverage for the injured skin layer underneath and protect against infection. Additionally, the wound fluid inside blisters promotes the healing process of the wound. The plaster supports this effect or even replaces it if blisters break. In this case, you should clean the wound before applying the plaster.
7. Can I combine the use of the SOS Burn Spray and the SOS Burn plaster?
Yes, you can. Use the
SOS Burn Spray as directed. Remove excess after the initial pain has stopped. Then apply the SOS Burn plaster to the dry skin and use as directed.
